Nonprofit Organizations by Activity Type

Description of the Indicator This indicator offers insights into the focus areas of nonprofit organizations in the region, which include arts and culture, health, and social services.

Why is it important? These nonprofit organizations are established to provide a public or mutual benefit other than profit for owners and investors. They promote initiatives that serve the public good. By addressing a variety of needs, these organizations create a more stable environment for individuals and families requiring different types of support.

How is the region performing? Most nonprofits in the three counties are human services organizations. The number of nonprofits by activity type in the region has declined over time. This is not necessarily a negative sign, as organizations tend to focus on issues and dissolve when those issues are resolved or to reduce duplication of efforts. Nonetheless, the region has a robust nonprofit community.
