Property Crime

Description of the indicator
This indicator analyzes the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System Annual Reports for crime statistics. Property crimes include burglary, larceny theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Why is it important?
Crime reporting is important because it gauges key indicators of an area’s overall safety and may help to improve public safety programs. Crime indicators are also used to gauge quality of life.

How is the region performing?
Overall property crime is on the decline. Larceny theft is the largest component of property crime and has large fluctuations, likely due to reporting. Given the continual declines, the region is generally a safe place to live.
