Description of Indicator
This indicator measures the number of drug abuse offenses related to the sale and possession of illegal drugs.
Why is it important?
The sale and possession of illegal drugs is highly indicative of other societal problems that must be addressed. Understanding community trends pertaining to drug crimes helps to inform individuals who may be able to stop or curb such activity. Drug crimes may induce other crimes as well.
How is the region performing?
Except for Wayne County, drug abuse offenses have generally declined in each of the region’s counties and the state since 2019. There have been some fluctuations over the years and a general downward trend has emerged. Variances are to be expected and not necessarily a reversal of a trend.
