Description of Indicator
This indicator measures the number of drug abuse offenses related to the sale and the possession of illegal drugs.
Why is it Important?
The sale and possession of illegal drugs is highly indicative of other societal problems that must be addressed. Understanding community trends pertaining to drug crimes helps to inform citizens who may be able to stop or curb such activity. Drug crimes may also induce other crimes.
How is the region performing?
Drug abuse offenses have been decreasing in each county and the state, except Wayne County since 2019. Wayne County’s increases a still significantly lower than in 2019. Variances are to be expected and not necessarily a reversal of a trend.
