Description of Indicator
This indicator provides a 10-year trend analysis of reported alcohol-related deaths from car accidents.
Why is it Important?
Alcohol abuse is a regional, national, and a worldwide problem. In recent years, more stringent state laws have been enforced to reduce the number of alcohol-related crimes and deaths. COVID increased mental health issues which, in turn, can influence substance issues.
How is the region performing?
Regardless of external influences, numbers in the counties have fluctuated over the past decade, but for the most part remain level with 2012 numbers in Lackawanna and Wayne counties. Luzerne noted a fairly large decrease.. The state, however, has noticed an increasing trend since 2020.
