Description of Indicator
This indicator provides the percentage of households with internet access through in-home subscriptions or smartphones. Internet speeds are not part of the measurement. This indicator also examines internet access by households with annual incomes less than $20,000.
Why is it Important?
This measure aids in evaluating internet infrastructure for the region and state and provides insights into internet disparities.
How is the Region Doing?
The shares of households with internet subscriptions – including households with annual incomes below $20,000 – have increased in all three counties and the Commonwealth. From 2017 to 2023, the shares of households with smartphones increased by 22.6 percent in Lackawanna County, 22.3 percent in Luzerne County, 21.8 percent in Wayne County, and 20.2 percent across the Commonwealth.
