This indicator describes local and statewide tourism trends.
Why is it important?
Tourism is vital to a healthy economy. It introduces cultural exchanges and helps to commercialize arts and other local resources. It allows for historical preservation and the introduction of cultural and historical societies.
How is the region performing?
After 2020, tourism visitor spending has increased in all three counties. Lackawanna County experienced a 16.5 percent increase in annual tourism in 2022 over the prior year, while Luzerne and Wayne Counties each experienced an approximate 18.3 percent and 14.1 percent increase, respectively. Statewide there was a 19.3 percent increase in tourism between 2021 and 2022.
