Disability

Description of Indicator
The Disability indicator tracks the percentage of the people living with a disability across the region, broken down by gender, race and ethnicity, and age.

Why is it Important?
The proportion of people living with a disability is an indicator of how many may need assistance from social networks or the government to live independently or maintain economic stability. It also indicates challenges a community may face to improve access to buildings, education, and employment opportunities for the disabled population.

How is the Region Performing?
The share of those reporting a disability across the three-county region has not changed dramatically from 2020 to 2022. Lackawanna County also has higher shares with a disability who identify as Black or African American alone. While Wayne County has greater shares with a disability who identify as two or more races and Hispanic or Latino (of any race). While those in Luzerne County, those with a disability, are more likely to identify as two or more races, Luzerne Two or more races, White alone and White alone, not Hispanic or Latino.
