Birth Rates

Description of the Indicator
This indicator details the number of births per 1,000 females throughout the region and state. These data are sourced from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Why is it important?
Birth rate data helps government and organizational leaders anticipate population trends, future education and childcare needs, labor force dynamics, and demand for healthcare and social services.

How is the region performing?
Birth rates per 1,000 females in all four analyzed geographies have declined since 1990. From 1990 to 2022 (the most recent year for which data were available), the lowest birth rates were recorded in 2022.
