This indicator shows the breakdown of employment by industry and changes in employment by industry over a five-year period.
Why is it important?
This indicator enables workforce development professionals to identify changing workforce needs and trends while leveraging economic diversity, i.e., the economy’s strength.
How is the region performing?
Health care and social assistance are the most dominant industries in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. In Wayne County, government occupations are the most prevalent. The second largest industries by employment in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wayne Counties are retail trade, transportation and warehousing, and health care and social assistance, respectively. The region’s diversity indicates economic resilience.
