Why is it important?
This indicator is important because it shows the earning potential for the region and the state. Understanding how the region compares with the state gives perspective surrounding the population in the region and where supports may be needed.
How is the region performing?
The region is seeing median household income increase over time, though 17.6 percent to 19.5 percent of households in each county are still earning less than $25,000 per year. This amount does not meet basic necessities, even for a single-person household. The largest population shares for each county and the Commonwealth report income from $50,000 to $74,999.
