Description of Indicator
This indicator examines special education enrollments for the region. The Special Education Enrollments categorized by type of disability and reported by the associated Intermediate Units in the region.
Why is it important?
Special Education is a vital component of the K-12 education system. It is also a good indicator of the number of children living with disabilities in the region and can help ensure that appropriate resources are available to provide them with equitable educational opportunities.
How is the region performing?
The number of children identified as having some form of disability and requiring special education has been increasing since 1990. Over 8,500 students in each Intermediate Unit are identified as having some form of physical or intellectual disability.
