Description of the Indicator
The Age Distribution indicator depicts the total population categorized into various age groups.
Why is it important?
Age distribution is an important indicator because it reveals details about the region’s and state’s populations. Higher percentages in the younger age brackets may represent a growing cohort, while higher percentages in the elderly age brackets could show a community in decline and in need of specific resources.
How is the region performing?
In 2022, in all geographies, the largest percentages of the populations in all analyzed geographies were aged 55 to 64 years. All areas show at least 20 percent of the populations at 65 and older, with less than 11 percent nine years of age and younger. Following national trends, the region is aging and youth comprises a smaller segment of the population.
