Arts Occupations

Description of the Indicator
This indicator details the number of people regionally employed in art, design, entertainment, and sports. It also provides information about wages for these occupations.

Why is it important?
A region that preserves its culture and heritage provides a means for residents and visitors to gain insight into local communities and traditions. Tourism and resident interests can benefit the local economy by supporting the arts via museums, historical and cultural societies, educational and community centers, and other regional entities.

How is the region performing?
The number of arts and design workers has increased regionally throughout the past decade, while the number of entertainers, performers, sports, and related workers has declined during that period. The entry-level and median wages for art and design occupations are slightly lower than those for other occupations; the entry-level and median wages for entertainers, performers, and athletes are higher. In both cases, wages for experienced workers are lower than those for other occupations.
