Tourism spending is monitored for Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, Wyoming counties, and the Commonwealth.
Why is it important?
Tourism is integral to a healthy economy. It introduces cultural exchanges and helps commercialize arts and other local resources. It elevates the importance of historical preservation and introduces cultural and historical societies.
How is the region performing?
Tourism visitor spending has rebounded since the onset of COVID-19. Although it declined slightly between 2022 and 2023, it increased by 25.1 percent in the past decade, most notably for Wayne County. In 2024, Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wayne Counties experienced an increase in tourism spending, with Wyoming County experiencing a slight decrease.
