Description of the Indicator
The Single Parent Families indicator reflects single-parent households with children under the age of 18. The dataset categorizes households led by single parents who are female and male.
Why is it important?
This indicator is important because it evaluates the number of male and female single parents responsible for raising their children within the region. This information is essential for ensuring that residents have proper access to sufficient resources, support programs, financial aid, healthcare, and other services.
How is the region performing?
The share of female single-parent households in Lackawanna County dropped slightly from 2021 to 2022, and the share of male single-parent households increase slightly during the same period. In Luzerne County, shares of both female and male single-parent households increased slightly. Wayne County saw a decrease in female single-parent households and a slight increase in male single-parent households.
Both Lackawanna and Luzerne County had higher percentages of female and male single-parent households than the state, and Wayne County share was smaller than the state’s proportion.
