This indicator represents the total number of dentists in the four counties and statewide. The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps describe dentists as those providing clinical care.
Why is it important?
Monitoring the number of dentists in a specific area enhances understanding of the availability of dental care and potential disparities in access to and the provision of care. Insights from this dataset can inform health initiatives, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
How is the region performing?
The number of dentists increased across all geographies between 2012 and 2023, but most significantly in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties. At the state level, the number of dentists increased by 21.5 percent from 2012 to 2023.
