Career and Technical Education

Description of Indicator
This indicator shows the enrollment in Career and Technical Schools (CTC) in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. These schools offer part-time and comprehensive experiences. Wayne County does not have its own CTC; however, the districts work to provide some CTC training. The shares of enrollees who complete work-based learning experiences, earn industry-recognized credentials, and score competent or advanced on their credentialing exams are provided as well.

Why is it important?
Career and technical education information offers insight into potential workforce needs (or strengths) associated with pathways available at CTCs.

How is the region performing?
The number of students enrolled in Career and Technology Centers (CTCs) decreased compared to the prior year, with only Wilkes-Barre Area CTC in Luzerne County seeing an increase in enrollment. This enrollment growth was substantial, supporting an overall increase regionally despite declines in other CTCs. Students attending West Side CTC are most likely to complete work-based learning experiences and earn industry-recognized credentials. Students attending Lackawanna CTC and Hazleton Area CTC are most likely to score competent or advanced on their credentialing exams.
