Description of the Indicator
This indicator shows the number of students from each school district who are enrolled in charter schools. Data is reported by county and school district and is sourced from the Future Ready PA Index.
Why is it important?
Charter school enrollment helps measure how many students are receiving their education outside their resident school district’s traditional public schools. Changes in enrollment can affect district funding, staffing, transportation, and long-term planning.
How is the region performing?
Between 2023 and 2024, charter school enrollment increased overall in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wayne Counties. Lackawanna County increased from 1,694 to 1,891 students, Luzerne County increased from 2,304 to 2,624 students, and Wayne County increased from 297 to 312 students. Wyoming County reported 108 students in 2024, but historical data is not available for comparison.
