Description of the Indicator
This indicator measures the four-year cohort graduation rate for each school district in the region. The cohort graduation rates are measured by the percentage of students who have graduated with a regular high school diploma within four years of entering high school.
Why is it important?
Graduation rates are important to understand from an economic standpoint because they inform decision making and planning. Parents of future students could use this data to compare schools within a district. Districts and school leaders may evaluate graduation rates to identify opportunities for improvement and areas that need improvement.
How is the region performing?
In Lackawanna and Wyoming Counties, the four-year cohort graduation rates saw a slight decrease from the prior school year. Luzerne County experienced a slight increase, but all four counties and the Commonwealth remained relatively steady in graduation rates over the past four years.
