Description of Indicator
This indicator represents the count of students between 7th and 12th grades who have withdrawn from school during a single academic year, for any reason other than death, and without transferring to another school or institution.
Why is it important?
The importance of high school completion has grown over the past half century. Education is a driving force behind health and well-being, employment and earning potential, and overall quality of life. Its connection to occupational and industry further enhances its economic value.
How is the region performing?
In all three counties, dropout rates have varied over the years analyzed. Lackawanna and Wayne Counties displayed slight decreases in school dropout rates compared to the prior year. Luzerne County saw its highest dropout rates reported, increasing to 443 from 359 reported in the year prior.
