Description of the Indicator
This indicator details public and private school enrollment from preschool to 12th grade, including the counts and percentages of the population enrolled in public and private schools.
Why is it important?
Although many education statistics are based solely on public school research, this indicator also considers private school enrollment and provides breakdowns of enrollment in each case. As economic development tools, private schools create additional jobs and increase the tax base – two factors critical in driving the economy.
How is the region performing?
Compared to the prior year, all four counties saw increases in public school enrollment during the 2024-2025 school year. Thus, all four counties faced decreases in non-public school enrollments during the same period. The state experienced different trend, however, with statewide public school enrollment decreasing as non-public enrollment increased to its highest rates reported.
