Description of indicator

This indicator reports the teen pregnancy rate per 1,000 residents in each of the geographies. It measures crude and age-specific rates for adolescents aged 15 to 17 years.

Why is it important?

Teen pregnancy data can be utilized to assess the need for sexual and reproductive health education and care. This information may also help identify disparities and risk factors associated with high rates of teen pregnancy, aiming to provide responsive programming and mitigate social and economic costs.

How is the region performing?

The teen pregnancy rates dropped significantly in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties since 2012. Data for Wayne and Wyoming Counties are not available. In 2023, the teen pregnancy rate in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties matched the rate in Pennsylvania.
