Description of Indicator
This indicator reports the teen pregnancy rate per 1,000 residents. It measures crude and age-specific rates for adolescents aged 15 to 17 years.
Why is it important?
Teen pregnancy data can be utilized to assess the need for sexual and reproductive health education and care. This information may also help identify disparities and risk factors associated with high rates of teen pregnancy, aiming to provide responsive programming and mitigate social and economic costs.
How is the region performing?
The teen pregnancy rates dropped significantly in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties since 2012, reaching their lowest levels in 2022. Data from Wayne County was not available. Luzerne County’s rates have consistently remained above statewide rates.
