Description of the Indicator
The Household Size indicator examines the average household sizes for the region and the state.
Why is it important?
Household size is important to determine an area’s growth rate and often coincides with the poverty rate. It also helps identify the specific number of people who live in a region, area, or neighborhood.
How is the region performing?
In the last three years, the change in household size has been minimal. The region matched the state in average household size in 2022.
Lackawanna County’s average household size dropped slightly from 1990 to 2000 and then remained steady. Luzerne County’s average household size dropped 0.2 points in the average size from 1990 to 2000 and then leveled by 2020. Wayne County’s average household size dropped 0.2 points from 1990 to 2000 and has fluctuated 0.1 points in the rest of the reporting years.
