This indicator shows the breakdown of employment by industry as well as changes in employment by industry.

Why is it important?
This indicator helps workforce development professionals identify opportunities, skills, and education for workers, while capitalizing on economic diversity, i.e., the strength of the economy.

How is the region performing?
Education, health care, and social assistance comprise the major industries in each of the counties, ranging from 20.5 percent to 28.5 percent. This category employs people at all education and skill levels. Manufacturing, retail, and logistics are high employment sectors for the region. The arts and professional categories are strong as well. The region is diverse, which indicates economic strength.
