This indicator shows the breakdown of employment by industry and changes in employment by industry over a five-year period.

Why is it important?

This indicator enables workforce development professionals to identify changing workforce needs and trends while leveraging economic diversity, i.e., the economy’s strength.

How is the region performing?

Health care and social assistance are the most dominant industries in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. In Wayne County, government occupations are the most prevalent. Manufacturing is the most dominant industry in Wyoming County. The second largest industries by employment for Lackawanna and Wyoming Counties is retail trade. In Luzerne County, the second largest industry by employment is transportation and warehousing. Health care and social assistance are the second most dominant industries in Wayne County. The region’s diversity indicates economic resilience.
