Description of the Indicator
This indicator examines the distribution of employment across major occupational categories within the regional workforce.
Why is it important?
Understanding employment by occupation helps identify the industries and skill sets that drive the regional economy, supports workforce development planning, and highlights occupations that may experience future growth or decline.
How is the region performing?
The region maintains a diverse occupational base. Transportation and material moving occupations employ the largest number of workers in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties, while office and administrative support occupations represent the largest employment group in Wayne County. Healthcare, education, sales, and production occupations also represent significant portions of the regional workforce.
