Exports by Industry

Description of the Indicator

This indicator examines exports from the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre–Hazleton Metropolitan Area by industry and export destination. Export values are reported in current U.S. dollars and are sourced from the International Trade Administration.

Why is it important?

Exports are a key driver of regional economic growth and competitiveness. Understanding which industries generate the greatest export value and where those goods are shipped helps businesses, economic development organizations, and policymakers identify opportunities for investment, expansion, and international trade.

How is the region performing?

Regional exports declined for the second consecutive year between 2023 and 2024. Chemical manufacturing remains the region’s largest export industry, while the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region continues to be the primary export destination.
