Description of the Indicator
This indicator details the distribution of household income levels and median household incomes.
Why is it important?
This indicator is important because it shows the earning potential for the region and the state. Understanding how the region compares with the state gives perspective surrounding the population in the region and where supports may be needed.
How is the region performing?
Median household income has increased over time, though 16.1 percent to 19.4 percent of households in each county still report incomes below $25,000 per year. This amount does not meet basic necessities, even for a single-person household. The largest population share for Lackawanna County reports income from $100,000 to $149,999, which is reflected at the state level. In Luzerne and Wayne Counties, however, the largest population shares report incomes from $50,000 to $74,999.
