Household Income

Description of the Indicator

This indicator details the distribution of household income levels and median household incomes.

Why is it important?

This information reveals the earning potential for the region and the state. Understanding how the region compares with the state gives perspective on the population’s livelihood and where support may be needed.

How is the region performing?

Median household income has increased over time, though 15.0 percent to 18.9 percent of households in each county still report incomes below $25,000 per year. This amount does not meet basic necessities, even for a single-person household.

Overall, the population of the four-county region reports lower incomes. Except for Wyoming County, in which the largest population share reports income from $100,000 to $149,999, the largest population share for each county reports income from $50,000 to $74,999. At the state level, the largest population share reports income from $100,000 to $149,999.
