Description of Indicator
This indicator details the number of licensed beds in nursing homes for every 1,000 residents. The daily room rates of facilities are determined using the average daily charges for semi-private rooms.
Why is it important?
The availability of nursing home care is particularly important in regions like Northeastern Pennsylvania, which has aging populations and a relatively large share of people with disabilities. Tracking this data serves as a means of assessing and planning for potential demand.
How is the region performing?
The number of nursing homes in the three counties has remained fairly consistent, though there has been some decline at the state level. Costs have risen across all analyzed geographies. The availability of licensed beds in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties is greater than the availability across the Commonwealth; the availability of beds in Wayne County is less than the availability across the state.
