Description of Indicator
This indicator measures the number of premature deaths per 100,000 residents for individuals below 75 years old.
Why is it Important?
This indicator helps identify trends in early mortality among individuals, which may be influenced by factors such as opioid overdose, COVID-19, automobile crash deaths, or suicide. A variety of health conditions and low quality of life contribute to premature death.
How is the region performing?
From the 2008-2010 period to the 2019-2021 period, the number of premature deaths on a per-capita basis increased in all studied geographies. Wayne County experienced the most significant rise, at 11.3 percent. Data for the 2013-2015 and 2015-2017 periods were unavailable.
