Premature Death

Description of the Indicator

This indicator measures the number of premature deaths per 100,000 residents for individuals below 75 years old.

Why is it important?

This indicator helps identify trends in early mortality among individuals, which may be influenced by factors such as opioid overdose, COVID-19, automobile crash deaths, or suicide. A variety of health conditions and low quality of life contribute to premature death.

 How is the region performing?

From the 2010-2012 period to the 2021-2023 period, the number of premature deaths on a per-capita basis increased in all studied geographies. Wayne and Wyoming Counties experienced the most significant rise.
