Description of Indicator
This indicator allows for a trend analysis of reported alcohol-related deaths from car accidents.
Why is it important?
Alcohol abuse is a regional, statewide, national, and worldwide problem. Tracking alcohol-related crash deaths allows for effective allocation of resources for prevention programs and targeted interventions such as sobriety checkpoints.
How is the region performing?
The number of alcohol-related crash deaths has fluctuated in all four counties over the past decade. Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties and the Commonwealth saw a decline in alcohol-related crash deaths, while Wayne County saw an increase.
