Description of the Indicator
This indicator allows for a trend analysis of motor vehicle crashes causing death, injury, or property damage.
Why is it important?
Thousands of automobile crashes occur in the region each year. Many can be prevented if motorists use caution. Further, injuries can be limited or prevented using seat belts. Tracking trends and changes can lead to road safety policies and program improvements.
How is the region performing?
The number of motor vehicle crashes has remained steady in the four-county region.
Pedestrian deaths decreased in Luzerne, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties, as well as the Commonwealth between 2023 and 2024. Lackawanna County has seen a small increase.
