Property Crime

Description of the Indicator

This indicator analyzes crime statistics from the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System Annual Reports. Property crimes include burglary, larceny theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Why is it important?

Crime reporting is important because it gauges key indicators of an area’s overall safety and may help to improve public safety programs. Crime indicators are also used to gauge quality of life.

How is the region performing?

Property crime in general is on the decline. In 2025, however, motor vehicle theft increased from the prior year in Lackawanna, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties. Larceny theft is the largest component of property crime, with significant fluctuations over the years. Given the overall decline, the region is generally a safe place to live.
