Description of the Indicator
This indicator measures a variety of school misconduct incidents, including incidents per 1,000 enrolled students.
Why is it important?
Threats to school safety have become more dire during the past two decades. A safe environment is critical to protecting children’s mental and physical health while fostering an enriching learning environment. Changes in behavior are often indicative of other issues; therefore, monitoring and understanding them could lead to root-cause solutions.
How is the region performing?
Overall, the four-county region and the Commonwealth saw a decrease in school misconduct incidents during the 2024-2025 school year compared to the prior three years. Luzerne County saw an increase in incidents per 1,000 students enrolled, however; this indicates that the overall enrollment declined more than the number of incidents declined from the prior year.
