Violent Crime

Description of the indicator
This indicator also analyzes crime statistics from the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System Annual Reports. Violent crimes include murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Why is it important?
Similar to property crime reporting, violent crime reporting is important because it gauges key indicators of an area’s overall safety and may help to improve public safety programs. Crime indicators are also used to gauge quality of life.

How is the region performing?
Despite some fluctuation, violent crime has declined regionally since 2010. Aggravated assaults form the largest component of violent crime in Northeastern Pennsylvania and statewide.
