Violent Crime

Description of the indicator
This indicator analyzes the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System Annual Reports for crime statistics. Violent crimes include murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Why is it important?
Crime reporting is important because it gauges key indicators of an area’s overall safety and may help to improve public safety programs. Crime indicators are also used to gauge quality of life.

How is the region performing?
Overall violent crime is on the decline. Aggravated assaults are the largest component of violent crime in the region and statewide. Numbers have generally declined in all three counties.
