Single Parent Families

Description of the Indicator

This data represents single-parent households with children under the age of 18. The dataset categorizes households led by single parents who are female and male.

Why is it important?

Single-parent household data is important for several reasons. These households may face heightened financial strain, particularly if they are headed by women or people of color. Community leaders can use data on single-parent households to plan for services such as parenting support groups and community childcare programs. Policymakers may use this information when designing measures related to family leave and tax credits.

How is the region performing?

After a substantial increase from 2020 to 2021, the percentages have fluctuated. The shares of female single-parent and male single-parent households in the region have increased overall.
