Disability

Description of the Indicator

The disability indicator tracks the percentages of people with disabilities, categorized by gender, race and ethnicity, and age.

Why is it important?

The proportion of people living with a disability highlights the demand for assistance from social networks or the government so that they can live independently and maintain economic stability. It also reveals challenges a community may face in improving access to buildings, education, and employment opportunities for the disabled population.

How is the region performing?

The share of those reporting a disability across the four-county region has not changed dramatically from 2020 to 2024. In the last year, reports either remained steady or experienced a minimal change. The prevalence of disability increases with age, and few trends related to disparities by race or ethnicity have emerged.
