Education

Description of Indicator

The education indicator depicts the number of regional residents 25 years and older, according to educational achievement and categorized by gender, race, and ethnicity.

Why is it important?

An educated population creates a more attractive workforce and a stronger economy. It boosts earning potential among workers, opening doors to upward mobility. Nonetheless, persistent gaps in academic achievement among students of different races, ethnicities, and gender are reflected in levels of educational attainment.

How is the region performing?

In all four counties, women are somewhat likelier than men to have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher. People who are White or Asian have the highest rates or bachelor’s degree attainment, followed by people of two or more races in Lackawanna County, Luzerne County, Wayne County, and Wyoming County. This mirrors findings for Pennsylvania.
