Description of Indicator
This indicator reports the number of STEM-based occupations in the three counties. They are categorized into architecture and engineering, life, physical, and social science, and computer and mathematical occupations. STEM occupation wages are also reported.
Why is it important?
As industries become more reliant on automation and other new technologies, the demand for STEM professionals increases.
How is the region performing?
In 2024, the number of STEM-based occupations in the region increased slightly from the previous year. Life, physical, and social science occupations saw the largest increase, followed by architecture, engineering, and computer and mathematical occupations. Overall, the region employs 8,516 STEM professionals. All three categories offered higher wages than the regional average as well. Previous years’ data have been updated to reflect the new data source.
